Saw the first Monarch fly through my yard in Fairfax City on 4/13/24. Saw a second one (the same one?) the next day in my yard on 4/14/24. We usually don’t see Monarchs here until mid-July earliest. Only one of my many swamp milkweed at that point had a few shoots up above the soil line - only 3-4” tall. One or both butterflies laid eggs on these few small shoots. Nine caterpillars survived, and all went successfully into chrysalis yesterday and today (5/8/24).
(I tried several times since 4/14/24 to post my first Monarch sighting on this Journey North site, but was only successful in doing so today (5/8/24)).
