Leaves on plants take in carbon dioxide and give off oxygen during
photosynthesis. This cleans the atmosphere and gives the oxygen to
sustain life. Most animals depend on leaves as a base for the food
chain. Leaves also play a part in the water cycle during
    transpiration.
