There were 2,229 manatees in January. There were 1,709 manatees in Febuary. There were 520 more manatees in January. There was 52 % change. The reasons Dr. Ackerman gives are: Habitat loss, a low birth rate, and high mortality makes the manatees' long term future uncertain.
