    Their wings are weak and fragile at first. Maybe their wings are like that
    because they have not flown for awhile or for very long. And when they fly
    for a month or so, the wings get stronger. It's important to note about the
    condition of their wings because if they get weaker, more die before getting
    up north, and I want them to survive.

    I would explain the mystery by stating that the butterflies have just been
    born. The condition of the butterfly tells me how long they have been
    traveling. It's important to note the sightings so people can help them keep
    their wings in good condition.

    The monarchs have healed quickly because of certain hormones. The wings tell
    you that predators nipped at them or that there was bad weather where they
    had been earlier.

    It is important to note the condition of butterfly wings, because the wings
    may affect their ability to fly. The lower part of the butterfly's wings
    probably control whether it flies up or down. If that particular part is
    damaged, the butterfly might hit a tree or not be able to fly at all.
