    Dear Journey North, We think it is because male robins have to make sure
    their territory is safe and have to mark a mating spot. The advantage is
    that they could get bigger territory before the other males get there.
    The disadvantages are that the ground could still be frozen, there's not
    much food, or a predator could be waiting for them to come.
