Because of the cutbacks here in Ontario I'm no longer a full time classroom teacher. The other 50% is spent being the school librarian. But my grade 4's are doing Journey North, and we have too much to do. We are tracking the monarchs and have a tulip garden. We will do leaf out in the future and ice out as well. I only have 200 minutes in six days to do this and we're having a hard time doing just some of the activities and challenges. Right now we are locating all the tulips showing on individual maps. We are also tracking the photoperiod and making graphs to do this. I'm using math for this. We are going to graph the high and low temperatures for the day and figure out the isotherms as well to see if our tulips come up when they are supposed to. With the e-mail and some of the challenges like the Spanish children's ways to protect the monarchs, we are hopping. I think they are also going to do some research on the rest of the animals if we can fit it in. Yes evaluation is g!
oing to be difficult, but as I become more familiar with the program (this is our first year) I'm sure it will come together.
