Odds and Ends from Don Davis

My University of Toronto Server has been down for a few days, and I am
sure that I am missing lots of good news and information items!

Journey North will be posting information very shortly about the 2nd
Journey South program. Last year, students in Canada and the United
States, as well as other individuals, created 40,000 paper monarch
butterflies that were later shipped (compliments of UPI) to the
Children's Museum in Mexico City. In the spring, those who had sent a
paper monarch received one back by return mail. Total weight of the
butterflies was 860 pounds! Check out the Journey North Site for
information: www.learner.org/jnorth. A good project also for scout
groups, church clubs, youth groups, etc.

The Children's Butterfly Site has some neat pictures that can be
downloaded and colored - including ones of a monarch egg, larva and pupa.
Check out their site at: www.mesc.nbs.gov.

The North American Butterfly Association Site has some maps showing the
results of their counts for monarch butterfly from 1991 to 1996. I
believe their site is located at: www.naba.org. click on the "Highlights"
    section.

P.S. I note in the local papers that Canada now has the distinction of
having the world's oldest person - a lady aged 117. News reports state
that she is very concerned that her 81 year old son "find a nice girl"
    and settle down!
