We are putting the finishing touches on the totally revised 2nd edition of
the Monarchs in the Classroom curriculum guides. These guides are for the
same 3 levels (K-2, 3-6, 6-8), and have additional material in each
section, plus a few new sections. The guides will be slightly over 200
pages long. They are organized as follows:
Monarch Biology (background)
How-to's (background on rearing, making cages, catching butterflies)
Life Cycle Curriculum
Migration and Overwintering Curriculum
Systematics Curriculum
Experiments with Monarchs Curriculum
Conservation curriculum
Ecology Curriculum
Monarch Bibliography
Blacklines (for making overheads, lots of great art=21)
Vocabulary
The cost of these guides will be =2416.50, including shipping. They will b=
of higher quality print, have many more student and teacher pages and
illustrations, and have easier-to-use bindings. The revisions were made by=
a focus group of Minnesota and one Nebraska teacher this summer working
with Karen Oberhauser and Liz Goehring at the University of Minnesota, with=
many suggestions coming from 46 teachers who took our one and two-week
courses this summer.
WE WILL NO LONGER TAKE ORDERS FOR THE OLD GUIDES. If you would like to
order new guides, please send a check made out to the University of
Minnesota Monarch Fund to the address at the bottom of this message. If
you are ordering more than eight guides, we can invoice you with the actual=
cost of shipping. BE SURE TO SPECIFY WHICH GRADE LEVEL YOU'D LIKE (K-2,
3-6 or 6-8).
Other items that we provide include:
1. Monarch Caterpillar Field Guide by Karen Oberhauser and Kris Kuda (=248
including shipping; the price in the tagging newsletter was an error)
2. Slide sets on the monarch life cycle and migration (23 slides/set for
