In answer to Challenge question 6, I think that the temperature and the
photoperiod probably determine when they leave. If they leave too early,
they can die because of bad weather. If they leave too late, they can die
because of lack of food, the plants may be done blooming, or the weather is
too hot. They also may not find enough butterflies to mate with, if the
main body has gone on ahead.
