Challenge question #4

Our 2/3 multi-age classroom is just beginning Journey North investigations.
We are still experiencing deep winter at 9,000 feet in the Colorado
Rockies. We decided robins do not eat insects during migration because if
worms are frozen insects will be frozen. We thought bird feeders would be
possible but our guides did not mention seeds as a food for robins. Finally
we decided they probably eat seeds and berries left on trees and maybe even
parts of trees. There was also some disscussion of scavenging from human
leftover fruits from trash cans.
some questions- Do robins always return to the same places year after year?
Do they ever reuse their nests?
why do they call birds birds?
Does anyone know why female robins have pale heads?
