Below are comments from the 7th grade science class at Lake of the Woods
School in Baudette, MN:

I think he marks them si in the future a different scientist would know
that someone else had studied the same bird. The marking will probably
last as long as the feather. - Brett, Lake of the Woods School

I think Dave Evens marks the wings because he wants to see if they will
fall out and how long it will take before the feathers fall out. I think
