Monarchs

The sixth grade Science classes at the Avery Middle School have been tagging
monarchs for four years. We raise caterpillars supplied by the Monarch Watch
people, and catch local monarchs when we can.

So far, we have tagged 11 captured monarchs. We have 14 chrysalises in
various stages of readiness. We'd like to get them on their way before it
becomes too cold.

Our part of Connecticut does not see an enormous number of monarchs, but we
have planted a "butterfly garden" outside the Science classroom in hopes of
attracting more.
