Challenge Question # 5

Michael Daugherty (daughert_m@popmail.firn.edu)
Thu, 15 Oct 1998 15:57:49 -0400

Mr. Daugherty's 4th and 5th grade class in Vero Beach, Florida had a
lesson in finding the average of a group of 30 numbers. Renae Dean, a
fifth grader, calculated correctly the average longitude --
approximately 97.964 west longitude.

It was also interesting to note that 18 of the 30 sightings were between
97 and 98 west longitude. These sightings suggest that the monarchs know
where they are heading, straight towards their wintering grounds in
Mexico. They will probably take the shortest route without going over
any water.
