We have had an eagle residing in a pasture behind our home in Basehor,
Kansas. He has been coming to the same area for approximately 4 years and
we have watched him grow from a scraggly brown to a magnificent bird with
the white now showing on his tail and showing through on his head and
neck. He has basically used the larger trees overlooking a large pond for
his hunting stand and we have had him in our backyard. It has been a very
exciting experience. We see him from about mid-November until April and
then he either goes elsewhere or we cannot see him for the leaves on the
trees. We know there are some in and around Clinton Lake, about 20 miles
away, as there is a nesting pair up there. We have also seen several in
the Bonner Springs area (5 to 8 miles from us) near the Kansas River. Is
having one using a pasture and pond as hunting grounds unusual? We sure
do enjoy your website and the emails.
