Eagles carry their prey with their talons instead of their beaks
because:
1) Their talons have a better grip because of the spicules, which are
specially equipped soles on their feet.
2) Their beaks are specially adapted to tear food.
3) If they tried to carry a heavy prey in their beaks, it would throw
off their center of balance.
4) Their 4th rear toe, called the "hallux," helps to grip the prey.
5) It is easier to keep the prey in their talons after they kill than to
transfer it to their beaks.
6) A slippery prey would slip out of their curved beak.
