Smaller birds have looser skin while larger birds have tighter skin.If
you have tight skin it's like a wetsuit. It keeps your body heat enclosed

for a longer period of time. The looser skin lets the body heat escape
easily. If you are a bigger bird you have a tendency to have more body
fat to keep you warm. A smaller bird is thinner so the heat can leave
quicker while the bigger birds are wider so they can keep the heat in
    longer.
