Seasonal changes in photoperiod affect the right whale's food web because
the right whale feeds on zooplankton. Zooplankton feed on phytoplankton.
Since phytoplankton use energy from the sun to produce food, there are more
phytoplankton in areas with a longer photoperiod because there is more
sunlight. Where there is more phytoplankton, there is more zooplankton, the
right whale's food. Right whales, therefore, migrate to locations with longer
photoperiods and more of their food.
