Mrs. Nunnally's second grade class at Peter Woodbury School in Bedford, NH
discussed what a robin needs to build a nest. We thought :

sticks, dried leaves and grasses, and mud for building the nest

a tall tree with a thick, strong branch in a place that is safe from predators

leaves on the tree for shade, to keep the nest dry, and for camouflage

a secure spot to build the nest so it won't get loose and fall

bare ground with no snow so the robins can find worms

food not too far away so the parents don't have to leave the nest for too long
