We generally agreed that spring has not reached the states where there
was fresh snowfall this week. On the tulip map, there aren't many snowy
places where tulips have emerged, and none where tulips have bloomed.
Here in Ithaca up on the hill where our school is, some of our tulips
are still under some snow and none of them have emerged. Whereas, down
in the city, many people report that their tulips have emerged. We
think that the higher elevations will still be too cold for the tulips
    to grow.

We did not agree about snow damage to the tulips. Some felt that the
snow provided a blanket that would protect the tulips from harsh cold
weather, based on the experiment reported last week - measuring the
temperature at different depths in the snow. Others felt that the cold
weather would damage the tulips as they were emerging.
