ìBased on data given, whatís the mean arrival date for (1) Donald Rose McGheeís hummingbirds, and (2) Bettyís hummingbirds?î

Donal McGhee's arrival dates were April 11 in 2000, April 8 in 2001, April 9 in 2002, April 7 in 2003 and April 10 for 2004. To find the mean, I added the dates together, which were April 11+8+9+7+10 and I got 45. Since there were 5 dates, I divided the answer I got by 45. That meant that the mean arrival date for Donal McGhee's hummingbird arrival dates is April 9.

I used the same method to find Betty's mean arrival date. April 27+ 21+ 29+ 23+ 24+ 28+ 25+ 22+ 22= 221. I divided 221 by the number of dates there were (9) and I got 24.5 as the mean date. This means that the average date of the hummingbird arrival is 12 hours into April 24.

The data was very interesting because the data for each person was clumped together. Donal McGhee's data was especially interesting because the mean date was also the median. If you reorder the dates, you get 7 8 9 10 and 11. It is really interesting how there is a straight in the numbers. The range of dates for his data is April 7-11, which is 5 days.

Betty's data range was April 21-29, which is 9 days. I think that Betty's range of dates is bigger since she has been keeping track of the hummingbird's arrival dates for a longer time.
