Mrs. Nunnally's second grade class at Peter Woodbury School in Bedford NH
were very interested in thinking about the weight of 15,000 butterflies!
We knew we could add 500mg 15,000 times but that would take a long time!
Some students thought we could multiply so we used the calculator to
multiply 15,000 times 500. The answer was 7,500,000 mg which converts to
7.5 kilograms. That also equals 16.5 pounds! (We used the Internet to help
us calculate the conversions). We talked about what could weigh about 16.5
pounds and came up with these ideas:

a baby about 5 or 6 months old
    3 bags of sugar
    a dachshund dog
    a bowling ball
