A Few Brave Tulips Have Emerged Through the Snow!
Tulips are telling us that spring is here!
Tulips Emerging
Reports from students and teachers are arriving daily.
Penn Laird, VA: "Almost all our tulips are up at EES. The kids are thrilled! Now we wait for them to bloom," noted Linda. (03/05/2019)
Lynnwood, WA: Anna's comment reminds us of our gardening challenges ahead. "The ground is still frozen in some spots, but our tulips are emerging. The only problem is that the bunny rabbits have also emerged. They are eating the leaves and leaving little brown pellets! Now to design a solution to our problem!" (03/04/2019)
Saint Louis, MO: Kelly and her students have taken careful measurements. Here is what they recorded in early March, "Tips have begun to emerge from the ground with dark red-purple coloring; however, green coloration is beginning to show in the tallest sprouted ones. The lowest growing one is about an inch and a half while the highest growing one is about 3.5 inches high. The weather has been freezing at points in the past weeks with some snow, but it is beginning to warm up to 40s and 50s." (03/03/2019)
Tracking Change
Study the map to see where there's action!
Inspire students to think and act like scientists as they observe seasonal changes in the garden. Use notebooking sheets to record soil temperatures, measure growth, and draw and describe the garden. Provide a workplace where they can document discoveries and record questions.
