Dear fellow flock of birders,
The best places to bird in the Arb in the winter are around the periphery where the birds can go to feeders of home owners. The best Arb location is at Spring Trail Pond, aka the Duck Pond. I’ve been seeing about 120 Mallards on the pond thus the name.

Dear Western Monarch Friends,
Visitors and nearby residents are enjoying observing the surprising increase in monarchs this season at overwintering sites throughout California. A few intense rainstorms blew through the area recently but the monarch population appears to be weathering them well so far. Meanwhile small pockets of monarchs are also present in southern California and the deserts of Arizona this winter as well, a harbinger of the season.

Dear fellow flock of birders,
Sunrise has reached it latest time at 7:29 am. It will stay at 7:29 until Jan. 6th when it is 7:28 am and will continue to fall slowly. On Jan. 31 it will be 7:13 am. Sunset times increase more rapidly thus the increase in day length is mainly caused by the time of sunset rather than the time of sunrise.
