Dear fellow flock of birders,

What have the birds in the Arboretum been up to this past week?

I think this time of year we don't have a lot of different birds so my reports tend to be a bit repetitious. I'm looking forward to spring when new birds start migrating through the Arb. Be that as it may, the activity in the main part of the Arb is about as follows.

12 January - 18 January 2021

Dear fellow flock of birders,

Soon there will be quite a change in our country. A whole new administration will take over. Let's hope it happens peacefully. In celebration of this event I've included a photo of a Bald Eagle, the national emblem of our country. I believe it also symbolizes the strength of our country and of our democracy.

05 January - 11 January 2021

Dear fellow flock of birders,

There's a lot we could talk about but I'm going straight to the main topic of this report - birds! If you're feeling down I suggest a good walk in nature with the addition of finding some birds would really help pick you up. At least it has helped me and I hope it works for all you too.

Dear Butterfly People,

In December, the US Fish and Wildlife Service shared a long-awaited decision on whether or not monarch butterflies should be included on the endangered species list. The agency determined that while the monarch migration was indeed endangered, they would not be granted protected status at this time.

22 December - 28 December 2020

Dear fellow flock of birders,

2020 is coming to an end in just a few days. I'm sure all of us will be glad to put that one behind us. Let's hope the new year, 2021, will bring us some relief from Covid-19, the renewal of in person visits with family and friends and maybe even the return of our Tuesday morning bird walks.
