October 27, 2017

Last week my brother-in-law Rogelio called me excitedly to say that he’d seen two monarchs from the window of his van as he was driving down the wildflower-filled road that connects the city of Zitácuaro to our village Macheros.

Then on October 27th my sister-in-law Daleth saw another two dancing around our yard.

A Spectacular Massive Arrival Today!

A very special hello, friends!

Over the weekend, things were calm. Families in town were organizing to welcome our great fest of Day of the Dead. I kept an eye up to the blue sky every other minute, just in case the first Monarchs would appear as signal of the souls of beloved dead ones. I drove around Angangueo during the day, not getting any sign from anyone about the Monarch’s arrival.

Dear Friends,

Our children in Angangueo and in nearby surrounding areas, together with me, are anxiously wandering around searching for the first Monarchs to be seen in town!

Gema and Bryan Martínez Guzmán, 8 and 13 years old, living by El Rosario Sanctuary, walked around looking for the first signs of Monarchs arriving. They helped me fill in the monitoring map with Zero registration, telling me:

Dear Friends,

We say hello to all of you from our beautiful town, Angangueo, in Central México! We want to share our happiness with you since our town, our forests, and we the people in town are so proud to welcome Monarchs to their winter home in only a few weeks.
