Howdy,
I have 23 very excited second graders that are just waiting for the Monarchs to visit their butterfly habitat.
We have had only two caterpillars since school began in August.
I began a schoolyard butterfly habitat 4 years ago with 20 first grades. Three years ago I moved to 2nd grade and a first grade teacher
and her class began helping me establish a rather nice area for bu;tterflies and people. Other teachers began bringing their classes out
to observe the butterflies and the Butterfly Habitat was designated our first outdoor classroom.
Each year we have added to the garden until this fall. We have a new program that has taken over three of our
butterfly flower beds and we are now in the process of rebuilding the butterfly habitat. It has been exceptionally
hot here in Houston and we are waiting for some cooler, more fall like weather. This past week we have had lows
in the high 70's and highs in the mid 90's with extremely high humidity levels. Even for Houston it is not typical fall weather.

This is my 8th year here in Houston. I have 17 years total experience and have taught third grade as well as first and second.
I look forward to hearing from teachers and their students.
