What an exciting day at Whitman Elementary School in Whitman, Nebraska!!! We received several gorgeous butterflies that were made last year by friends in U.S.A. and Mexico. We are anxiously awaiting the appearance of the first real Monarch this spring to Whitman and expect that to be soon due to the warm weather that has finally reached our area. Our school is located in the Sandhills of Nebraska. The Sandhills region is approximately 19,000 square miles of sand dunes-the largest sand dune in the Western Hemisphere! Yes, Nebraska is a prairie state, so our sand dune is covered with miles and miles of grass. Perfect for raising cattle! In fact, in the Sandhills, there are more cattle than there are people. Whitman Elementary School has 22 students in grades Kindergarten through Sixth grades.

We received butterflies from these schools:

Fernandia Beach Middle School in Fernandia Beach, FL
Notre Dame Elementary in Burlington, IA
    Dighton Elementary in Dighton, MA
Quincy Upper School in Boston, MA
    Annunciation School in Minneapolis, MN
    Breck School in Minneapolis, MN
Prairie Woods Elementary in New London, MN
Aquila Primary Center in St. Louis Park, MN
Achieve Language Acad. in St. Paul, MN
Isaac Dickson Elementary in Ashville, NC
    Hillside School in Closter, NJ
Goshen Middle School in Goshen, OH

    AND Saltillo, Coahuilla, Mexico

    Sincerely,
Ms. Christensen's Third and Fourth Grade Class
