A Monarch could not fly in New Jersey at 8 am on October 27th because it was too cold. The monarch must have temperatures of 60 degrees F for flight when it is cloudy and the temperature at 8 am was about 35 degrees F. At 11 am is was still too cold to fly, being around 40 degrees F. By 2 pm the monarch?s could finally take flight with temperatures reaching 60 degrees F. They were still flying at 5 p.m. while temperatures remained in the 60?s. At this rate we are concerned that the monarch?s still in New Jersey will not make it to Mexico because they have a long way to go, crossing about ten states, and colder temperatures are shortening their flying time. We wish them well.
