The whooping cranes fly about 800 miles every week, if they fly in a straight line. The cranes spread out over 35 miles of the Texas coast. Tom explains the whooping cranes seem to be taking a down swing every 10 years, then grow for the rest of the decade. The unusual dropping of numbers is probably because they couldn't find food due to weather conditions.
