Whales can live in salt water because of their powerful kidneys. When whales eat, they take in water which helps in filtering out the salt. Since whale blood is similar to the blood of mammals, their kidneys filter this blood and excrete the excess salt through their urine. Humans can't survive because we would become very dehydrated.
