    A difference and also an advantage to humans is that we are able to move our fingers. Whales on the other hand must use its whole flipper because the bones in the flipper can't move themselves. One similarity between our hands and a gray whale's flippers is that a gray whale's flippers are used to balance, turn and steer. When you think about it we also use our hands to hold things. Also we can rotate our hands and steer things such as cars.
