    Variables that affect where, when and how many robins you might see in the winter:
     
    Whether and what kinds of fruits and berries there are.
    Whether and how much clean water there is
    What the temperature is (37 degree isotherm)
    Whether the ground is moist and soft (for earthworms)
    How many trees there are (for nesting)
    How many cats there are
    How many other robins there are
