Mrs. Grimm's 5th grade students come up with some reasons why more
animals on the endangered species list are specialists than generalists
    because:

    # when non-native species are introduced into an area, native species
are forced out and the animals that only eat the native species need to
move elsewhere to fulfill their plant food requirement or they die

    # human activity (pollution or building) can destroy or damage habitats
that are specifically needed by a specialist animal. Generalist can
move on to another habitat more easily or adapt to their changed habitat

    # when plants die out specialists that are 1st level consumers will die
out too, generalists may be able to move on to another habitat or may
adapt - similar fate may await 2nd and 3rd level consumers - but it may
    take longer for their endangerment
