    In the photo, the whooping crane on the left is the male, and the one on the right is the female. We think so because the crane on the left holds his head way back, and has its beak pointing straight up. The crane on the right has its head back, but its beak isn't pointiog straight up. Also, the one on the right has a green PTT band on its left leg. Only females have the PTT bands. This is how we know the crane on the right is a female and the crane on the left is a male.
