Mrs. Nunnally's second grade class at Peter Woodbury School in Bedford, NH
thought of these similarities and differences for ruby throated
    hummingbirds and monarch butterflies:

    SAME

    both animals
    fly
    have wings
    migrate
    are small
    lay eggs
    hatch out of eggs
    grow bigger
    both have a life cycle
    have two eyes
    both have bodies
    live in the U.S.

    DIFFERENT

a hummingbird is a bird, a monarch an insect
the hummingbird has a beak, a monarch has a proboscis
a bird has feathers, a butterfly has scales
    the butterfly has antennae
    they are different colors
a hummingbird has 2 legs and a butterfly has 6 legs
monarchs shiver when they are cold
a monarch has spots on its wings
    a hummingbird's wings beat faster than a monarch's wings
