Since the monarch butterflies arrive in Mexico during the dry season, there isn't much water for them to drink. They can get water from lakes and gulfs that haven't dried up, like Laguna Salada, Salton Sea, and the Gulf of California. They could also get water from plants, flowers, and other vegetation that store water.
