WHOOPING CRANE CHICKS BEGIN FIRST JOURNEY NORTH!
They're OFF! The hatch year 2005 whooping cranes chicks that were led to Florida by ultralight planes last fall have begun their first spring migration. Crane chick #520 left yesterday with pal #309. The rest of the crane-kids left today, March 28.
Will
these unassisted chicks find suitable and safe stopover sites? Will
they find their way back to their summer home in
Wisconsin? How long will the journey take? The suspense
begins!
