Meet Class of 2010: Chick 1001
Chick #1001 hatched May 1. On May 4 the chick went for a walk in the outdoor run because it was nice and warm. "Mommy" Barb Clauss said, "It was so cute to see him-or-her at the doorway peeping like crazy before venturing out later on its own." This photo was made May 11. How old is #1001 in the photo? By then it was learning to walk in a big circle pen outdoors, following the ultralight airplane as it slowly taxied along. An egg laid by captive cranes at Patuxent WRC in Maryland brought us this chick.
