Trapped
We borrowed a big net about 40 or 50 feet in length, and drag the pond with it.  The chicks watched in curious amazement as Hilary and I each took an end of the net, stretched it out to its full length, and pulled it across the pond. Nothing! On our second trawl, there it was: the cutest little alligator this side of Jurassic Park. This dangerous critter had been lurking in the pond, spooking the smart young cranes who knew enough not to sleep there! I imagined the baby alligator with a giant thought balloon above his head that said, “Two hundred million years and I’m the first 'gator to be caught by two idiots wearing white costumes!  Bummer!” Continue...
