Wisconsin cranes have built 22 nests between April 8 and May 1, while cranes of the main flock are just reaching the nesting grounds of Canada's far north. Trackers were thrilled to discover the first Whooping Crane nest to exist on the new Wisconsin breeding area of White River Marsh in April. More surprising, it was built by three-year-olds: pair #7-11 and #10-11! Every egg is precious to this endangered species. This crane is turning an egg in her nest.
