Use
the "Scale of Miles" at the bottom of the map to find distances
between dots (eagle locations) on the map. It's easy—here's
how you can do it:
You
will need:
a ruler, and
a piece of string
or
a strip
of paper

Scale of Miles

This
week's eagle map (03/25/08)-click for larger map. |
- You
will need to mark your string at the intervals along
the scale. Stretch the string out along the scale. At each
interval use
a marker to place
a mark. The intervals are 190 miles apart (0,
190, 380, 570, 760, and 950 miles).
After you have marked the string you can use it to measure the
distances.
|
- Place
the first mark at the 03/01 location and hold it down tightly.
- Stretch
the string to the next location (03/07), then up to the 3 dots
labeled 03/10, 03/13, and 03/16. Use a different colored marker
to make a dot on your string at 03/16.
- How
far did U27 fly from 03/01 to 03/16?
|
- Now
use the string and measure from 03/16 to the most recent location.
- Calculate
the total number of miles using your own home-made scale
of miles measurement.
* Bonus:
Take the total miles and divide by 25 to get the miles per day
that U27 has flown so far.
