Symbolic Migration Update: November 5, 2002 Today's Report Includes:
3, 2, 1 . . . Lift Off! Monday afternoon, at exactly 2:00 p.m. CST, your paper butterflies began the final leg of their Symbolic Migration to Mexico! While you were studying in your classrooms, we were busy getting ready
for the big send-off. Once again this year, Ruthan Gagner prepared each
box with special UPS shipment labels, Beth Allen assisted, and our friendly
UPS driver, Tod Stenstrom arrived at the staging grounds at Journey North
headquarters in Wayzata, Minnesota and eagerly loaded your precious cargo
onto his truck. Before leaving, he gave us the special Tracking number, so you can follow the migration LIVE all the way to Mexico. But first--what's your prediction for when they'll arrive? See if you can answer today's Challenge Question below. But don't wait too long, they could catch a tail wind!
Clues:
As you figure your answer, this information about the workday in Mexico might be helpful: People generally come to work at 9 a.m., they take a midday comida from 12 until 2, and return to work until about 7 p.m.

With the help of school children, Senora Rocio Trevino tracks the monarch migration across northern Mexico through the program she founded called "Correo Real." Years ago, people thought the streams of monarchs passing over her town of Saltillo, Coahuila, were invading insects. Children had contests to see who could kill the most! Senora Trevino now educates people about the significance of the monarch migration. Networked computers are rare in these schools, so she collects sightings the hard way--primarily through mail. This is why she named the program "Correo Real," which is Spanish for "Royal Mail." Can you find Saltillo, Coahuila on a map? Journey North Asks YOU
