Wildflower Nectaring
Lucky are the hummingbirds still finding wild nectar sources. They'd better hurry! It's past mid September, and several northern locales report temps near freezing. To gather enough nectar to meet their high energy needs, hummers must visit hundreds of flowers every day. They feed by sight on regularly followed routes, but their inquisitive nature will quickly lead them to investigate any possible new source of food. We'd like to hear what wild sources of nectar hummingbirds are using in your area and along the migration trail!

"There's still jewelweed blooming all along the roadsides. I like to think of the hummers finding this favorite fall food as they go.."
