Eating Dawn Till Dusk
Hummers feed till dusk and start feeding as early as 45 minutes before sunrise, when they really need the energy after a cool night. The energy stored by the end of a day of feeding is usually sufficient for a hummer to survive overnight.

"The female hummingbird is still here at dusk. It's supposed to frost tonight. Brrr!"

Wayne C. in New Brunswick, Canada (September 16, 2013)

"Two female hummers on the feeders or perching on the feeder hooks right after first light this morning."

Mike in Oakdale, Minnesota (September 19, 2013)

"At 6:30 this morning it was 33 degrees F. I put the feeders out and within minutes the juvenile male arrived for a drink."

Leslie B. in Bretton Woods, New Hampshire (September 17, 2013)
