Big Week in Texas
Texas was the top state reporting hummers this week:

"On September 20th, a cold front swept down from the north bringing north winds to Texas. This low pressure system crossed the Texas coast on the morning of September 21st. Hummingbird numbers dropped dramatically after the front. I've only seen one hummer yesterday and today, whereas before the front, we were seeing about 20 hummers constantly at our feeders all day long.

"I assume the hummers took advantage of the north winds associated with the front and moved south for the winter. Once the winds turn around back from the southeast, maybe another wave of hummers will sit on the Texas coast a while until the next cold front allows them to continue their journey. I'm keeping our feeders full and ready for winged guests."

"A cool front came through came through Sept. 21 with NNE winds 15-25 mph. This should open the route south for hummers headed to or through Mexico before the next tropical low pressure system brings storms and blocks the route. Black-chins have left. Rubythroat numbers have dropped, and Rufus Hummingbirds may be staying the winter as they frequently do."
