Ways of the Rufous
Rufous Hummingbirds keep surprising observers. Marilyn in Haisa, British Columbia, has had a Rufous since October 3rd. It's still there! Also:

"An adult male Rufous Hummingbird has been staying in our yard since August 24. He was banded by a licensed bander on August 26. We will be interested to see how long this little fellow stays with us; the one that wintered with us last year did not leave until April."

R. M. Tucker in Woodstock, Georgia (October 30, 2013)

"Mr. Rufous was eating breakfast at 8 a.m. I'm seriously beginning to wonder if he's going to leave!"

Karen in Olathe, Kansas (October 30, 2013)

"The rufous is still here. The feeder nectar was frozen this morning, so I put out some fresh and just saw her again."

Rebecca Choate in Sparta, North Carolina (October 26, 2013)
