Perching and Digesting
As busy as they are when we see them, hummingbirds actually spend 80% of their day perching. They need time to digest! When feeding, hummers store the nectar in a small pouch at the base of the throat called the crop. When perching, they are digesting the nectar and probably won't feed again until their crops are at least half-empty.

"One of the females visits a specific feeder. She'll also sit on the deck railing between sips to rest, digest, get more, and then move on."
