Hummers faced chilly temperatures in several states. This Missouri observer's photo shows fluffed-out feathers, one way these tiny birds cope with cold. What else do you observe in this photo?

"We saw an unusual hummingbird, short and stout as compared to the Ruby-throated hummingbirds that we are so familiar with. In research online, the best we can determine is that it is probably an immature male Allen's hummingbird. Did not eat at the nectar feeders at all, just went for the flowers!"
