Eating Dawn to Dusk
Watch your hummingbirds go on a feeding frenzy before leaving the breeding grounds. They will feed often and intensely for days, a state called hyperphagia. Hummers start feeding as early as forty-five minutes before sunrise and they keep eating until dusk. Ornithologists calculated that this intensive feeding results in enough fuel to fly nearly 600 miles at 35 miles per hour.

"As usual, early morning and evenings are busiest at feeders."
