Rufous Hummingbird Map Questions

Many Journey North observers think that unusually cold, wet spring weather caused rufous hummingbirds to return later than usual. Look at these rufous migration maps from the same week in 2007 and 2008.

Rufous hummingbirds can handle cold weather, but windy weather could slow them down. How else could weather conditions slow the migration? (Think about food sources.)
